Billie Joe Armstrong will appear on the upcoming third season of NBC's of The Voice. The Green Day frontman will assist Christina Aguilera in her mentoring duties, according to a tweet sent by the show's producers:
"Welcome Billie Joe (@BJAofficial) to #TeamXtina! We are ready to rock out in Season 3."
In a statement, Armstrong said he is a fan of the show, adding that the program has distinguished itself from other TV singing competitions because "it's not molding artists, it's just giving them a little bit of guidance and direction without giving them a complete makeover." He added that Aguilera is "a lot of fun."
Armstrong reportedly began taping his segments on "The Voice" Wednesday; the series went into production last month.
The episode in which Armstrong makes his Voice debut has not yet been announced, but the show kicks off on September 10.
