Christopher Eccleston ("Dr. Who") is "in final negotiations" to play foil to superhero Thor in the sequel to last summer's blockbuster hit, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
It is rumored that Eccleston's character would be Malekith The Accursed, the ruler of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim. Most of the plot is being kept under wraps by the studio.
Chris Hemsworth will return as Thor in the sequel, directed by Alan Taylor ("Game Of Thrones"), alongside a cast reported to include Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins and Idris Elba. Stellan Skarsgård also confirmed that he has signed for "Thor 2" and revealed that he begins shooting in August.
Eccleston has predisposition for evil characters as he has played them in several roles including "28 Days Later" and "G.I. Joe: the Rise of Cobra."
