Turkey July Inflation Accelerates

Turkey's annual inflation rose to 9.07 percent in July from 8.87 percent a month ago, the Turkish Statistical Institute reported Friday. The rate was close to economists' expectations of 9 percent.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell 0.23 percent in July, slightly larger than the 0.18 percent decline forecast by economists.

Alcoholic beverages and tobacco showed the biggest annual increase of 18.69 percent. Cost of miscellaneous goods and services climbed 13.76 percent and housing gained 11.68 percent.

In a separate report, the statistical office said producer prices dropped 0.31 percent from a month ago. Producer price annual inflation eased to 6.13 percent from 6.44 percent.
