North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has met a senior Chinese Communist Party official, the first foreign dignitary Kim is meeting since becoming the North's supreme leader.
Kim met Wang Jiarui, head of the Chinese Communist Party's International Department, in capital Pyongyang on Thursday, China's state-run Xinhua News Agency reported.
Kim told the Chinese leader that he hoped to carry on the legacy of his late father, Kim Jong Il, and deepen his country's traditional friendship with China. He said his goals were to develop North Korea's economy and improve people's living conditions.
On his part, Wang said the two countries should maintain high-level contacts and enhance strategic communications and coordination on major global and regional issues.
Wang is known to have had close ties with the elder Kim, serving as a guide when the late North Korean leader visited China.
