Medivation Inc. (MDVN: Quote) and Astellas Pharma Inc. announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has assigned a Prescription Drug User Fee Act (PDUFA) action date of November 22, 2012 for the review of the investigational agent enzalutamide (formerly MDV3100) New Drug Application (NDA) for the potential treatment of men with castration-resistant prostate cancer previously treated with docetaxel-based chemotherapy.

The companies announced on July 24, 2012 that the FDA accepted the enzalutamide NDA filing for review and granted Priority Review Designation.

Germany Skirts Recession In Q1 As Consumer Spending Recovers

A rebound in consumer spending helped the German economy thwart recession in the first quarter of 2013, detailed data from the Federal Statistical Office revealed Friday. Gap Inc. Thursday after the markets closed that its first quarter profit rose 43% from last year, helped by higher sales and improved margins. The company's quarterly earnings per share also came in above analysts' expectations as did its quarterly sales. At the same time, the company eaffirmed its fiscal year 2013 earnings outlook, which is below analysts' current consensus estimate.

After moving sharply lower at the start of trading on Thursday, stocks showed a substantial recovery attempt over the course of the trading day. The rebound came as upbeat housing data helped offset worries about the Federal Reserve. The major averages climbed well off their worst levels of the day but still ended the session in the red.
