Romney Campaign VP Meet-n-Greet Contest Deadline Expires

Romney Campaign VP Meet-n-Greet Contest Deadline Expires
8/4/2012 2:22 PM ET

The deadline has passed to enter to win a meet-and-greet with Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and his unnamed running mate, the Romney campaign said Friday, spurring further debate about when the vice president announcement will be made.

"The big VP announcement is coming soon and the buzz here at campaign headquarters is exciting," Romney campaign manager Matt Rhoades said in an email to supporters Friday.

"Although we don't know who Mitt's choice for VP is yet, I can tell you that you only have until midnight tonight to enter this week's contest for your chance to meet them both in person."

The email is just the latest in a series of signs the campaign is close to announcing the running mate for the former Massachusetts governor.

Although he stated this week he was not any closer to choosing a running mate, Romney flew with his top political advisors to campaign events in Colorado Thursday - including Beth Meyers, the head of the VP selection team - and campaigned with multiple possible candidates for the position in Aspen.

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie - both possible running mates - were in tow. Pundits speculate Florida Senator Marco Rubio, Ohio Senator Rob Portman and even former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice are other possibilities.

Romney previously confirmed he will announce his running mate before the Republican nominating convention in Tampa at the end of the month.
