Republican Party officials unveiled the first list of speakers at this month's Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida, on Monday, including 2008 presidential nominee Sen. John McCain of Arizona and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
RNC Chairman Reince Priebus announced the names of the speakers, which also include Florida Gov. Rick Scott, South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, Ohio Gov. John Kasich and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.
Priebus called the roster of speakers "some of our party's brightest stars, who have governed and led effectively and admirably in their respective roles."
"Ours will be a world class convention, worthy of the next president of the United States, and these speakers—and those that will be announced later—will help make it a truly memorable and momentous event," Priebus said in a statement.
The RNC convention will be held in Tampa from Monday, August 27th to Thursday, August 30th.
Scott and Kasich are at the forefront of a Republican movement against labor unions, seeking to roll back collective bargaining rights in Florida and Wisconsin.
Huckabee is considered a close ally of religious groups, given his credentials as an ordained Southern Baptist minister, while Haley is seen as another up-and-coming GOP star.
The RNC did not announce the convention's keynote speaker, nor did Monday's announcement do much to quell speculation about GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney's vice presidential selection.
Several GOP senators are rumored to be on Romney's short list, as well as non-congressional candidates such as Rice.
