Bruce Springsteen's inspiration apparently knows no bounds, reaching as far as Australia's treasurer Wayne Swan, who said he looks to the Boss for economic inspiration.

"You can hear Springsteen singing about the shifting foundations of the U.S. economy which the economists took much longer to detect, and which of course everyone is talking about now," Swan said in a lecture to members of the ruling Labor party.

Swan, 58, said he was a student when he first became a Springsteen fan following the release of Born to Run. He even went so far as to quote some of the Boss' lyrics: "Poor man wanna be rich/ Rich man wanna be king/ And a king ain't satisfied/ 'Til he rules everything."

Swan's main rival, opposition treasury spokesman Joe Hockey, did not agree, calling Swan's comments "ridiculous."
