Hungary's merchandise trade surplus increased from last year in June, and exceeded economists' expectations, preliminary data released by the Central Statistical Office showed Wednesday.
The trade surplus advanced to EUR761.7 million in June from EUR570.8 million in the same month last year. Economists were looking for a surplus of EUR580 million.
Export of goods advanced 5.6 percent on an annual basis to EUR6.90 billion during the month, the agency said.
The value of imports was higher by 3 percent compared to last year in June, and reached EUR6.14 billion, data showed.
In the January-June period, the trade balance was a surplus of EUR3.588 billion, down from the EUR3.823 billion surplus recorded in the same month last year. Exports and imports increased 0.2 percent and 0.9 percent annually during the six-moth period.
