Great Plains Energy Q2 Profit Rises

Great Plains Energy (GXP) reported second-quarter earnings of $57.7 million or $0.41 per share, up from $43.0 million or $0.31 per share in the comparable quarter last year.

On average, 9 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to earn $0.36 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

Operating revenues for the latest quarter rose to $603.6 million from $565.1 million last year. Two analysts expected revenues of $588.97 million for the quarter.

Looking ahead, the company said that it is reaffirming its 2012 earnings guidance range of $1.20 to $1.40 per share. Analysts currently expect the company to earn $1.27 per share.
