Greek Industrial Output Rises Modestly In June

Industrial production in Greece increased moderately in June, ending a series of declines recorded in the past, data released by the Hellenic Statistical Authority showed Thursday.

Industrial production moved up slightly by 0.3 percent on an annual basis in June, after falling regularly in the previous months. In May, production had decreased 2.8 percent.

Mining and quarrying production increased by 18.9 percent annually, while electricity production and water supply production advanced 10.9 percent and 3.9 percent respectively during the month. Output in the manufacturing sector, meanwhile, decreased 4.3 percent compared to June 2011.

Month-on-month, industrial output advanced 4 percent in June, slower than May's 6.4 percent gain. In the January-June period, production decreased on average 4.8 percent from the same period a year earlier, data showed.
