Italy's EU harmonized inflation remained unchanged from the previous month in July, defying preliminary estimates for a modest increase, final data from statistical office Istat showed Friday.
The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) increased 3.6 percent annually in July, slower than the 3.7 percent growth seen in flash estimates. The revised rate was in line with the figure for June.
Food and non-alcoholic beverages prices rose 2.6 percent during the month, while clothing and footwear prices climbed 6.9 percent. Housing costs and utility prices were higher by 7 percent compared to last year, and transportation costs by 5 percent.
Month-on-month, the HICP dropped 1.7 percent in July, faster than the 1.6 percent fall estimated earlier.
At the same time, the consumer price index increased at a faster rate of 3.1 percent in July than 3 percent estimated earlier. Compared to June, consumer prices edged up 0.1 percent, while the preliminary estimates showed no month-on-month change.
