France's EU harmonized inflation weakened modestly in July, after remaining steady in the previous month, data released by statistical office Insee showed Tuesday.
The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP), measured under the EU methodology, increased 2.2 percent annually in July, after remaining unchanged at 2.3 percent in June. Economist were looking for an inflation rate of 2.3 percent in July.
On a monthly basis, the HICP edged down 0.5 percent during the month, in line with economists' forecast, and reversed the 0.1 percent gain seen in the previous month.
At the same time, the consumer prices index increased 1.9 percent annually in July, unchanged from the growth seen in June. Economists had forecast a 2 percent gain.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices decreased 0.4 percent, after remaining flat in the previous month, the agency said. July's monthly decline matched economists' forecast.
