Spanish inflation, measured by the harmonized index of consumer prices or HICP, jumped to a seven-month high in July, data from the statistical office Ine showed Tuesday.

The rate of inflation rose to 2.2 percent in July from 1.8 percent in June. This is the highest rate of change since December last year, when the HICP rose 2.4 percent. The figure matched economists' forecast.

On a monthly basis, HICP fell 0.9 percent compared to expectations for a 0.8 percent fall.

The consumer price index rose 2.2 percent, faster than 1.9 percent increase in the previous month. The CPI inflation rate was also the highest since December 2011.

Month-on-month, CPI fell 0.2 percent. Both the figures matched economists' forecasts.

The core inflation rate jumped to a 7-month high of 1.4 percent in July from 1.3 percent in June.
