PetSmart Inc. (PETM: Quote) reported second quarter net income of $0.71 per share after the bell Wednesday, up from $0.54 per share last year. The consensus estimate was for EPS of $0.66. The company expects to report third quarter EPS of $0.59 to $0.63 and between $3.30 and $3.40 for the full year. The consensus estimates are for EPS of $0.61 and $3.31.
PetSmart gapped open sharply higher Thursday, but was range-bound for the majority of the session. The stock closed up by 3.09 at $70.53 on the highest volume in nearly 3 months. PetSmart broke out of a 2-month range and set a new high for the year.
