CWA Ratify Agreements Covering AT&T Wireline Employees In Midwest, AT&T Corp.

AT&T Inc. (T: Quote) said Friday that wireline employees represented by the Communications Workers of America have voted to ratify three-year contracts for the AT&T Midwest region and AT&T Corp.

The tentative agreements were reached July 21.

The Midwest agreement covers more than 13,000 wireline employees in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, and Wisconsin. The AT&T Corp. agreement covers about 5,700 wireline employees located throughout the country.

AT&T Southeast on August 7 reached a tentative agreement with the CWA in wireline contract negotiations in the Southeast region, in addition to tentative agreements on two smaller Southeast regional agreements covering AT&T Billing Southeast and Southeast Utility Operations.

The three agreements, which will be submitted to the union's membership for a ratification vote, collectively cover more than 22,000 AT&T wireline employees in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

While stocks moved sharply lower at the start of trading on Thursday, selling pressure waned not long after the open.
