Healthcare Sector: New 52-week Highs And Lows On Aug.17

In Friday's regular trading session, the following are the healthcare stocks that reached their 52 week high and 52 week low prices.

The 52-week high list

Senior living facility operator Brookdale Senior Living Inc. (BKD: Quote) touched a new high of $20.08 before closing the day's session at $19.73. The stock is up 13% year-to-date. Earlier in the month, the company reported its Q2 results - with net loss shrinking to $18.81 million or $0.15 per share from $33.96 million or $0.28 per share, and revenue improving 18% to $690.8 million.

Bio-Reference Laboratories Inc. (BRLI: Quote), a clinical testing laboratory, hit a new high of $29.70 before closing at $29.40. The stock is up over 80% year-to-date.

Oncology drug development company Celsion Corp. (CLSN: Quote) recorded a new high of $4.39 in the day's regular session before ending at $4.20. The stock is up 147% year-to-date. The company's lead product candidate is ThermoDox, which is currently in a phase III study, dubbed HEAT, for the treatment of primary liver cancer. Last week, the company was given FDA clearance to commence phase II study of ThermoDox and MR-Guided HIFU in bone cancer.

Aesthetic medical device company Cynosure Inc. (CYNO: Quote) touched a new high of $26.46 before closing the day's session at $26.39. The stock is up 124% year-to-date.

GenMark Diagnostics Inc. (GNMK: Quote), a molecular diagnostics company, hit a new high of $7.65 in the day's regular session before ending at $7.55. The stock is up 83% year-to-date. In the second quarter, the results of which were reported last week, the company's revenue was up 301% to $3.6 million, reflecting an increase in the number of automated, multiplex molecular diagnostic testing systems placed at customer sites, growth in test menus and a significant increase in the number of tests sold.

Hanger Inc. (HGR: Quote), a medical device company, recorded a new high of $27.43 in Friday's regular trading session before closing at $27.39. The stock is up more than 46% year-to-date. Earlier in the month, the company reported Q2 EPS growth of 11.1% on 7.2% increase in net sales.

Medtronic Inc. (MDT: Quote), a medical technology company, set a new high of $40.91 before closing at $40.84. The stock is up over 6% year-to-date. The company is scheduled to report its Q1, fiscal 2013, results on August 21. Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expect the company to earn 85 cents per share on revenues of $4.01 billion during the quarter.

Pharmacyclics Inc. (PCYC: Quote), a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company, touched a new high of $63.11 in regular trading session and ended the day at $62.89. The stock is up a whopping 324% year-to-date.

Patterson Companies Inc. (PDCO: Quote), a distributor of dental, veterinarian and rehabilitation medical supplies, touched a new high of $36.15 before closing the day's session at $36.13. The stock is up 22% year-to-date. The company is scheduled to report its Q1, fiscal 2013, results on August 23. The analysts' estimates for Q1 are EPS of 49 cents per share and revenue of $883.53 million.

Pluristem Therapeutics Inc. (PSTI: Quote), a bio-therapeutics company developing placenta-based cell therapies, recorded a new high of $5 before ending the day's session at $4.15. The stock is up more than 66% year-to-date. On August 16, the company announced that it has received approval from the Indian ministry of health for use of its PLacental eXpanded, or PLX cells, in phase II trial for treatment of Buerger's disease.

Sirona Dental Systems Inc. (SIRO: Quote) recorded a new high of $55.42 in the day's regular session before ending at $54.98. The stock is up nearly 25% year-to-date. Looking ahead to fiscal 2012, the company expects revenue growth to be in the range of 8% to 10%.

Spectranetics Corp. (SPNC: Quote), a medical device manufacturer, closed Friday's regular trading session touching a new high of $12.48. The stock is up more than 72% year-to-date.

SurModics Inc (SRDX: Quote), a provider of drug delivery and surface modification technologies to the healthcare industry, hit a new high of $18.67 in the day's regular trading session and ended at $18.49. The stock is up 26% year-to-date. Earlier in the month, the company reported solid Q3, fiscal 2012 results, and provided upbeat outlook for the full year. SurModics commenced a tender offer to purchase up to $55 million of its common stock, at a price per share not less than $17.00 and not greater than $19.00, on August 6. The tender offer is slated to expire on September 5, 2012, unless it is extended.

Sunrise Senior Living Inc. (SRZ: Quote), a provider of senior living services, closed the day's session touching a new high of $8.94. The stock is up nearly 38% year-to-date.

XenoPort Inc. (XNPT: Quote), a biopharmaceutical company, recorded a new high of $9.04 in the day's regular trading session and closed at $8.91. The stock is up an impressive 134% year-to-date.

The 52-week low list

InterMune Inc. (ITMN: Quote), a biotechnology company, slumped to a new low of $7.53 in the day's regular trading session before closing at $7.69. So far this year, the stock has lost nearly 39%.

AngioDynamics Inc. (ANGO: Quote), an oncology device company, fell to a new low of $10.34 before closing the day's session at $10.69. The stock is down nearly 30% year-to-date.

PositiveID Corp. (PSID: Quote), a medical device and biological detection company, touched a new low of $0.01 before closing at $0.02. The stock has lost nearly 89% year-to-date.
