Barnes & Noble To Offer NOOK Products, Digital Content In UK From Autumn

Barnes & Noble Inc. (BKS: Quote) said its NOOK reading experience and digital bookstore are coming to the United Kingdom this autumn through a new www.nook.co.uk online storefront, marking the expansion of its business globally for the first time. The company would also offer its NOOK digital products and content to UK reading and entertainment lovers via. partnerships with leading retailers expected to be announced shortly. These well-known UK partners are expected to support the NOOK offering there through both established physical and online channels.

The first products to be available when the company begins offering its products in the UK in mid-October include Barnes & Noble's line of critically acclaimed E Ink Readers, NOOK Simple Touch and NOOK Simple Touch with GlowLight. The NOOK Simple Touch and NOOK Simple Touch with GlowLight are set to introduce in the UK in time for the holiday shopping season.

Starting this autumn, UK customers would be able to shop an expansive NOOK Store featuring over 2.5 million digital titles, comprising top-selling UK books, newspapers and magazines, plus comics, exciting NOOK Apps and more.

Publishing and design software maker Adobe Systems Inc. said Tuesday after the markets closed that its second quarter profit fell 66% from last year, hurt by lower revenue as well as higher costs and expenses. However, the company's quarterly earnings per share, excluding items, came in above analysts' expectations and its quarterly revenue was in line with analysts' forecast. Stocks showed a strong upward move over the course of the trading day on Tuesday, adding to the gains posted in the previous session. The rally came even as traders expressed some uncertainty ahead of tomorrow's Federal Reserve announcement. The major averages gave back some ground going into the close but remained firmly in positive territory. In a potential roadblock to comprehensive immigration reform legislation, House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, indicated Tuesday that he would not bring a bill to the floor unless it is supported by a majority of House Republicans.
