Siemens Healthcare To Buy Penrith Corp.

Siemens Healthcare, a unit of Siemens AG (SI: Quote), Tuesday said it agreed to acquire Penrith Corporation, a maker of integrated ultrasound imaging systems, to expand its portfolio of diagnostic systems. The company expects the deal to close in September 2012.

"This acquisition uniquely positions Siemens to bring new, meaningful solutions to the ultrasound market and to expand our presence in attractive business segments," said Jeffrey Bundy, CEO, Siemens Healthcare Ultrasound Business Unit.

The company did not disclose any financial details of the acquisition in the statement.

Analog Devices, Inc. said that its second quarter profit rose slightly from last year, helped mainly by lower income tax expenses even as revenue declined 2%. The company's quarterly earnings per share, excluding items, came in line with analysts' expectations. The poll showed that 51 percent of Americans approve of the way Obama is handling his job as president compared to 44 percent that disapprove.
