Former NFL star Michael Strahan is rumored as the permanent replacement for Regis Philbin on "Live!" with Kelly Ripa. Regis left the long-running show in November 2011 and was replaced by a series of guest hosts throughout the last year, including Strahan.
Thus far there has been no official word on the position and Strahan is reportedly in negotiations for a contract. Broadcasting and Cable magazine reports that ABC has, in fact, offered Strahan the job and they hope to make an announcement in September.
Since retiring from the gridiron, Strahan has worked as a host for Fox's "NFL Sunday" and also appeared briefly on the sitcom "Brothers." The official word on Ripa's new host will come on September 4.
