Frontier Airlines said it it will not operate the nonstop service it planned to launch between Durango, Colo. and Las Vegas, Nev. starting on October 4, 2012. The Denver-based carrier will be proactively reaching out to customers in the next week to refund purchased tickets.

"Unfortunately, the community interest in this new service was far less than we anticipated," said Daniel Shurz, Frontier's SVP, commercial. "As Colorado's hometown airline, we will continue to explore opportunities to expand our high-value, low-fare service throughout the state."

Frontier said it will continue to provide service to Durango with daily flights to its hub in Denver where the carrier offers connections to over 60 cities in the United States, Mexico, and Costa Rica.
