Joss Whedon ("The Avengers") will co-produce a Marvel comic based series, "S.H.I.E.L.D." (Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistics Directorate) for ABC.
The program will be written by Whedon, his brother Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, a pair with whom he has often worked, according to Deadline.
"S.H.I.E.L.D." director Nick Fury (played by Samuel L. Jackson) was featured heavily in "Iron Man 2" and "The Avengers." In the latter, Fury recruits Iron Man, Captain America, the Hulk and Thor in order to stop the evil plot of Thor's brother Loki. Production on the series will begin soon.
"S.H.I.E.L.D." is Whedon's return to the small screen. He previously ran such shows as "Dollhouse," "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Firefly." Whedon currently has a three-year exclusive deal with Marvel for film and television.
