Norwegian Unemployment Rate Drops In August

Norway's unemployment rate decreased from the previous month in August, after rising in the previous month, data released by the Norwegian Labor and Welfare Service (NAV) showed Friday.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped to 2.6 percent in August from 2.7 percent in July. In June, the jobless rate was 2.4 percent. The latest figure was 1 percentage point lower than the jobless rate recorded in August 2011.

There were 68,445 unemployed persons in Norway in August, lower than 71,738 recorded in the previous month. Year-on-year, the number of unemployed decreased by 4 percent.

The number of new job vacancies remained broadly stable in August, while the total number of jobs increased 4 percent from a year earlier, data showed.
