Metallica's contribution to the upcoming salute to metal legends Deep Purple, Re-Machined: a Tribute to Machine Head, is now available as an official stream via Metallica's YouTube channel, Metallica TV. For the tribute album, the group lent their talents to a rendition of "When a Blind Man Cries."
This year marks the fortieth anniversary of the original release of Machine Head by Deep Purple, and reflecting on the metal masterpiece, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich says it is still a hallmark of the era made by one of the genre's greatest groups.
"All the stuff that we do, and have been doing for the last thirty years, and the bands in the 80s and 90s and in the last decade . . . it all traces back to Deep Purple . . . and, obviously, to a degree, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin - but Purple had their own niche in that trio."
Metallica are joined by an all-star cast on the tribute record, including Iron Maiden, Carlos Santana, Black Label Society, Steve Vai, Chad Smith and Chickenfoot.
Re-Machined: A Tribute To Machine Head is due out on September 25.
