Bay Street stocks edged up at open Tuesday amid buying in commodities, with the S&P/TSX Composite Index adding 31.05 points or 0.25 percent to 12,246.48.
The Diversified Materials Index gained about 1 percent, with Inmet Mining (IMN.TO) and Teck Resources (TCK_B.TO) adding over 1 percent each.
In the oil patch, NuVista Energy (NVA.TO) gained close to 5 percent after announcing the disposition of three property packages for gross proceeds of approximately $236 million.
Crescent Point Energy (CPG.TO) and Tourmaline Oil (TOU.TO) were up around 1 percent each.
Among gold stocks, Detour Gold (DGC.TO), Allied Nevada Gold (ANV.TO), Barrick Gold (ABX.TO) and Goldcorp. (G.TO) gathered around 1 percent each.
Meanwhile, IT stocks were under pressure, with MacDonald Dettwiler (MDA.TO) and Open Text (OTC.TO) losing around 1 percent each.
