U.S. wholesale inventories report for July is due at 10 am ET Wednesday. Economists expect wholesale inventories at the end of July to show a 0.4 percent increase compared to a 0.2 percent drop in June.
Ahead of the data, the greenback was up against the yen, but held steady against the rest of major currencies.
At 9:55 am ET, greenback was worth 0.9377 against the franc, 77.96 against the yen, 1.6090 against the pound and 1.2892 against the euro.
