"Saturday Night Live" creator/producer Lorne Michaels sat down for an interview with Entertainment Weekly on Wednesday (September 12), during which he revealed that Jay Pharoah would be taking over the role of Barack Obama impersonator on the program.

It is a duty which Fred Armisen has tackled since 2008, but Michaels believes Pharoah is up to the task:

"Jay has been doing Obama in his act this summer, and Jay is coming into his own. I just thought it might be time to shake it up."

Pharoah joined the show in 2010 and has successfully impersonated a host of public figures including Denzel Washington, Eddie Murphy and Will Smith.

Mitt Romney impersonator Jason Sudeikis, whom Michaels noted would remain with the show, will likely join Pharoah for a number of political skits on the upcoming 38th season of the show.
