Food prices were down 0.5 percent on year in August, Statistics New Zealand said on Friday, after plunging 1.8 percent in July.
On a monthly basis, food prices were up 0.1 percent after adding 0.2 percent in the previous month.
Among the individual components, prices were down 2.1 percent for grocery food and 0.7 percent for meat, poultry and fish. Offsetting the decline, restaurant meal prices were up 1.3 percent.
