IHG Board Proposing To Pay Special Dividend Of 108.4p Per Existing Share

InterContinental Hotels Group Plc (IHG: Quote,IHG.L) said the amount of the special dividend is $1.72 (108.4 pence) per existing ordinary share. On August 7, 2012, the Board of IHG announced its intention to return $1 billion of funds to shareholders via a special dividend with a share consolidation of $500 million and a share buyback programme of $500 million.

It is proposed that the payment of the special dividend be accompanied by a consolidation of the company's ordinary share capital. The share consolidation will replace every 15 existing ordinary shares with 14 new ordinary shares.

Stocks moved sharply higher over the course of the trading day on Friday, more than offsetting the weakness seen on Thursday. While the IRS targeting scandal has taken center stage on Capitol Hill on Friday, the results of a new Gallup poll showed that the American public's interest in the story is comparatively low based on historical measures. The poll showed that 54 percent of Americans are following the news that the IRS targeted conservative groups for greater scrutiny "very" or "somewhat" closely.
