Croatia's annual inflation increased to the highest level in three-and-half years in August, data released by the Croatian Bureau of Statistics showed Friday.

Consumer price inflation accelerated to 4 percent in August from 3.4 percent in July. The latest figure was the highest since February 2009, when prices rose 4.2 percent.

Driving the faster annual growth, food prices grew 5.1 percent during the month, and housing costs and utility prices jumped 13.1 percent. Transportation expenses were higher by 1.8 percent compared to last year, and clothing and footwear prices lower by 5 percent, data showed.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices moved up 0.5 percent in August, recovering from the previous month's 1 percent decline, the agency said.
