Italy Logs EUR4.5 Bln Trade Surplus In July

Italy's merchandise trade for July resulted in a surplus of EUR4.5 billion, preliminary data released by statistical office Istat showed Monday.

Overall exports increased a seasonally adjusted 0.3 percent month-on-month in July. Year-on-year, shipments were higher by 4.3 percent during the month.

The value of imports advanced 2.9 percent sequentially. Compared to July 2011, arrivals fell by 4.3 percent during the month.

In the January-July period, the trade balance was a surplus of EUR4.4 billion. Exports increased 4.2 percent year-on-year, while imports plunged 5.6 percent, data showed.

Trade with European Union countries resulted in a surplus of EUR2.65 billion in July, the agency said.
