Apple has revealed impressive new sales figures for their new iPhone 5. In an official statement, reps from the California tech giant said that over 2 million customers placed pre-orders for the their newest smartphone within 24 hours of them hitting the market.
"iPhone 5 pre-orders have shattered the previous record held by iPhone 4S and the customer response to iPhone 5 has been phenomenal," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior VP of worldwide marketing, said in a Monday statement. "iPhone 5 is the best iPhone yet, the most beautiful product we've ever made, and we hope customers love it as much as we do."
Apple's longtime partner AT&T has also confirmed the impressive stats in their own statement, saying:
"[iPhone 5] is the fastest-selling iPhone the company has ever offered. Customers ordered more iPhones from AT&T than any previous model, both on its first day of preorders and over the weekend."
Pre-orders of the phone launched at 3 a.m. Eastern time Friday, September 14 and initial stock was depleted within hours. Those placing orders now through Apple.com are instructed that iPhone 5's will ship within "2 to 3 weeks."
