Kroger Recalls Spinach Due To Listeria Outbreak

Kroger is recalling packages of fresh spinach in 15 U.S. states because it may contain Listeria - which could result in severe illness to individuals who are pregnant or have a weakened immune system.

Packages in question are Fresh Selections Tender Spinach in 10-ounce packages with a "best if used by" date of September 16 and a UPC: 0001111091649.

Such packages may be returned to their local store for full refund or replacement. Customers who might have purchased the affected products will receive register receipt messages and/or automated phone calls.

States implicated in the recall are Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia, Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska.

The recall involves its Kroger, Jay C, Owen's, Pay Less, Scott's, Food 4 Less, Dillons, Baker's and Gerbes stores in selected states.
