In a two-minute television ad released Thursday, President Barack Obama called for a "new economic patriotism" and policies to continue the nation's economic recovery.
The ad, which many are likening to a closing argument for the presidential race, features Obama speaking directly to the camera and will air in New Hampshire, Virginia, Florida, Ohio, Iowa, Nevada, and Colorado, according to the Obama campaign.
Obama begins the ad by reminding voters of the difficulties the country faced when he took office four years ago, both for the economy and the nation's security.
"We were losing nearly eight hundred thousand jobs a month, and were mired in Iraq," Obama says. "Today, I believe that as a nation we are moving forward again."
He adds, "But we have much more to do to get folks back to work and make the middle class secure again."
Obama then warns viewers about the potential consequences of electing his Republican rival, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.
"Governor Romney believes that with even bigger tax cuts for the wealthy, and fewer regulations on Wall Street, all of us will prosper," Obama says. "In other words, he'd double down on the same trickle down policies that led to the crisis in the first place."
To contrast, Obama offers his own plan to create a million manufacturing jobs, boost exports, and offer tax incentives for companies that invest in the U.S.
"We cut our oil imports in half and produce more American made energy--oil, clean coal, natural gas; and new resources like wind and solar; biofuels, all while doubling the fuel efficiency of cars and trucks," Obama says.
He adds, "We ensure that we maintain the best workforce in the world by preparing a hundred thousand additional math and science teachers; training two million Americans with the job skills they need at our community colleges."
Obama goes on to say that he also wants a "balanced" plan to reduce the federal budget deficit.
"On top of the $1 trillion in spending we've already cut, I'd ask the wealthy to pay a little more," he says. "As we end the war in Afghanistan, let's apply half the savings to pay down our debt and use the rest for some nation-building right here at home."
He adds, "It's time for a new economic patriotism, rooted in the belief that growing our economy begins with a strong, thriving middle class. Read my plan. Compare it to Governor Romney's and decide for yourself."
