Fiona Apple has apologized to her fans for getting arrested recently for carrying a small amount of hashish at a border stop in Texas.

The singer was detained at Hudspeth County Jail on September 20 and was released over the weekend. Apple later told her fans she was sorry for the incident since it took attention away from the release of her new album, The Ider Wheel . . ..

"This record with me . . . I'm really, really sorry that all the work that we did is being overshadowed by all this bulls**t," she said.

Earlier this week, a Texan police officer named Rusty Fleming issued a public letter saying Apple should "shut up and sing." The letter went on to read, "Two weeks ago nobody in the country cared about what you had to say - now you've been arrested it appears your entire career has been jump-started."
