Since the release of the iPhone 5, users have complained of an issue with the device's camera: a purple flare appears in photos where a strong source of light is present. Now, Apple has confirmed that the purple presence appears as part of the camera's normal functioning.
According to tech blog Gizmodo, which reprinted a letter from the Cupertino-based company to a complainant, users have to adjust their photo taking habits:
"Our engineering team just gave me this information and we recommend that you angle the camera away from the bright light source when taking pictures. The purple flare in the image provided is considered normal behavior for iPhone 5's camera."
According to PCMag, the previous iteration of the device, the iPhone 4s, was better at "minimizing the reproduction of flare caused by out-of-shot light sources." The site also speculated that the new scratch-resistant Sapphire Crystal lens covering may be causing the purple flare.
