Celebrated journalist and former CNN talk show host Larry King will moderate a presidential debate between the third-party candidates to be broadcast free on the Internet next Tuesday.
The debate will be sponsored by the Free and Equal Elections Foundation, a non-partisan group aimed at electoral reform, and will be broadcast live in the Internet courtesy of Ora.TV, Russia Today and Fair and Equal.
Libertarian Party candidate Gary Johnson, Green Party candidate Jill Stein, Constitution Party candidate Virgil Goode, and Justice Party candidate Rocky Anderson have all confirmed their participation in the debate.
"We are honored to have Larry King moderate this historic debate," Founder and Chair of Free and Equal Christina Tobin said in a press release.
"The previous debates between President Obama and Governor Romney have failed to address the issues that really concern everyday Americans. From foreign policy, to the economy, to taboo subjects like our diminishing civil liberties and the drug war, Americans deserve a real debate, real solutions, and real electoral options," she added.
Larry King, who now hosts Larry King Now on Ora.TV and Hulu.com, will moderate, using questions taken from viewers on social media sites, including Twitter where they can use the hashtag #AskEmThisLarry.
"This is a truly exciting opportunity," King said in a press release. "I have interviewed every U.S. President since Nixon, and lest people forget, I helped usher Ross Perot into the national conversation during the 1992 presidential contest."
"I appreciate the importance of providing a platform to those with real alternative visions for our country's future," King added.
All top six presidential candidates were invited, including President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney, but only the four third-party candidates have committed to attend.
Fair and Equal is framing the debate as the American people's way of hearing views and policies outside of those normally presented by members of the Democratic and Republican parties.
"Step outside of the two-party stranglehold and wake up. Learn what's being discussed outside of the rigged two-party political system," a promotional ad for the debate stated.
The debate will take place on October 23 at 8:00 p.m. Central Time at the Hilton Chicago. Viewers can watch the debate live on freeandequal.org/live.
