Anworth Mortgage Asset Corp. (ANH) Thursday reported third-quarter net income to common shares of $20.6 million or $0.15 per share, compared with $29 million or $0.22 per share last year.

On average, 11 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected earnings of $0.17 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

Core earnings for the quarter comprised $22 million of net income less $1.5 million of dividends paid to preferred stockholders.

Net interest income for the quarter slid to $25 million from $33 million a year ago. Analysts on consensus estimated $30.44 million.

At September 30, 2012, the company had book value of $7.45 per share, versus $7.19 per share at June 30, 2012.
