State Auto Financial Corp. (STFC) posted third-quarter net loss of $5.5 million or $0.14 per share versus net loss of $58.7 million or $1.46 per share last year.
Net loss from operations per share for the third quarter of 2012 was $0.25.
Total revenue for the three-month period declined to $286.4 million from $388 million in the prior year.
Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report a loss of $0.17 per share on revenues of $278.19 million for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
