Netherlands' merchandise trade surplus increased from last year in October, data released by the Central Bureau of Statistics showed Wednesday.

The trade surplus, on an unadjusted basis, increased by EUR0.2 billion from a year earlier to EUR3.6 billion in October.

Export of goods advanced 14 percent year-on-year to EUR38.8 billion during the month, driven by a notable increase in values of raw materials and mineral fuels.

The value of imports rose 15 percent annually to EUR35.2 billion, due mainly to higher import values for raw materials and mineral fuels, and a marked gain in arrivals of chemical products.

In volume terms, both exports and imports increased 6 percent each compared to October 2011, the agency said.
