Dylan McDermott has signed on to star in "Mercy," an adaptation of the Stephen King story, "Gamma," from the "Skeleton Crew" collection.

Starring alongside the "American Horror Story" star will be "Super 8" actor Joel Courtney. The film will be directed by Peter Cornwell, who previously directed "The Haunting in Connecticut." Matt Greenberg, who adapted Stephen King's "1408" into a film, has written the script.

The film follows two young boys who go with their single mother (Frances O'Connor) to take care of their elderly, senile grandmother named Mercy. The story takes a horror turn when they discover that the elderly grandmother is a witch who made a pact with a dark force many years before.

"Mercy" is being produced by Blumhouse and Wonderland Sound and Vision, the team behind "Paranormal Activity."
