Aretha Franklin will begin work on a new album in early 2013. She has enlisted the help of renowned producer Babyface, who has previously worked with Madonna, Beyoncé, Diana Ross, the late Michael Jackson and Paula Abdul.

The Queen of Soul revealed the news about the new album in an interview with Detroit television channel WDIV-TV. Franklin explained:

"I'm working on a new album, Babyface is producing it. I'm just working on things we're going to be doing." The 70-year-old singer will head into the studio to start work on the LP after the holidays have wrapped up.

Franklin was being interviewed as she hosted a Christmas party at the Greektown International Banquet Center in downtown Detroit. Franklin's Christmas party featured several acts, including The Delfonics, The Contours, Sylvester Potts, Charles Scales, Robert Penn, sons Eddie and Kecalf, and granddaughter Victory.

The new album will be the first from Franklin since joining Clive Davis's J Records.
