A gunman has shot dead three people in a village in southern Switzerland, media reports citing local officials said late on Wednesday.
Two people were also injured in the incident that reportedly took place at about 9:00 p.m. local time in the village of Daillon in Valais canton, some 60 miles east of Geneva.
According to Swiss broadcaster RTS, the shooter has since been arrested. The assailant was reportedly shot at and injured by police officers after he threatened them. No police officers were injured in the incident.
Authorities were yet to identify the gunman, who was said to be armed with an assault rifle. Nevertheless, local media reported that he was a 30-year-old Daillon resident.
Motive for the attack is not yet clear, but witnesses claim that the gunman was highly intoxicated when he carried out the attack. An investigation has been ordered into the incident.
