Obesity may be linked with decreased levels of Vitamin D, says a new study from researchers at the University College London Institute of Child Health. For the study, researchers reviewed the health records of 42,000 people collected during 21 individual trials.

According to lead researcher Dr. Elina Hypponen, every ten percent rise in body mass index also led to a four percent decrease in Vitamin D. Hypponen notes that the study "highlights the importance of monitoring and treating vitamin D deficiency in people who are overweight or obese."

David Haslam, from the National Obesity Forum, adds:

"Food intake and genetics all play a part in obesity - but this research is a reminder that physical activity, like walking the dog or going for a run out in the sunshine, shouldn't be forgotten and can help correct both weight and lack of vitamin D."
