Sri Lankan Journalist Faraz Shaukatally Shot At His Home In Colombo: Reports

Sri Lankan newspaper Sunday Leader's Journalist, Faraz Shaukatally, was shot by an unidentified gunmen at his home in Colombo, late on Friday night, according to several reports.

Shaukatally, who holds dual British and Sri Lankan citizenship, received bullet injuries in his neck and was rushed to a state hospital by a group of foreign tourists who were in the vicinity.

A doctor who treated Shaukatally reportedly said the journalist was now out of danger.

Initial inquiries have revealed that three men on two motorbikes had opened fire at Shaukatally in front of a guest house in which he was residing.

Reports said that Shauketaly was on the telephone with a journalist at the Sunday Leader newspaper during the late hours of Friday night discussing a story which was to be published on Sunday when his telephone line got cut. Minutes later the newspaper was informed that he had been shot.

Shauketaly had mentioned on an earlier occasion that he had faced threats.
