Luxembourg Unemployment Rises For Fifth Month

Unemployment in Luxembourg rose for the fifth consecutive month in January, data released by the statistical office revealed Friday.

The number of unemployed in January was 17,408 persons, up from 16,963 in December. The figure has risen steadily since September last year. The unemployment total rose by 1,829 persons from a year ago.

Meanwhile, the seasonally adjusted jobless rate remained unchanged at 6.4 percent in January. The rate was 5.8 percent in the same month last year.

On a seasonally adjusted basis, the number of unemployed rose to 15,956 in January from December's 15,889 and 14,230 persons a year ago. The total has been rising since November 2011.
