Cheniere Energy Q4 Net Loss Widens - Quick Facts

Cheniere Energy, Inc. (LNG) posted a wider fourth-quarter net loss of $94.3 million, compared with a $57.8 million loss, in the 2011 period, while quarterly loss per share narrowed to $0.44, from $0.66 a year ago. Recent quarter results included significant items of $54.1 million, or $0.25 per share, related to liquefied natural gas terminal and pipeline development expenses primarily for the liquefaction facilities Cheniere Energy Partners, L.P. is developing at the Sabine Pass LNG terminal adjacent to the existing regasification facilities and the liquefaction facilities being developed by us near Corpus Christi, Texas and losses due to the early extinguishment of debt, the company said.

Excluding items, the adjusted net loss for the quarter ended December 31, 2012 was $40.3 million, or $0.19 per share. On average, 4 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected loss per share of $0.26 for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude one-time items.

Total revenues were $67.42 million, down from the prior year's $72.59 million in the comparable period last year. Analysts estimated revenues of $71.50 million for the quarter.
