Samsung's New Wallet App Too Similar To Apple's Passbook

Samsung has announced an application called "Wallet", which looks like Apple's Passbook app for iPhone. The announcement was made at the mobile World Congress on February 27.

For the uninitiated, Apple's Passbook is an application that stores coupons, boarding passes, event tickets, store cards and other forms of mobile payments. Samsung's new app also has some of Passbook's other features, including location-based push-notifications, which inform users about offers and the ability to display barcodes for scans at payment desks.

However, Wallet does not have any NFC capabilities to boast about unlike Passbook. We're guessing that this is because of Samsung's recent partnership with Visa, who will come out with Third Party apps that will turn phones into payment instruments, using NFC technology.

The company has managed to sign up several partners for the application, including names like Walgreens, Belly, Major League Baseball Advanced Media, Expedia, Booking.com, Hotels.com, and Lufthansa. We're expecting this app to be present in the upcoming Galaxy S4, which will be launched on March 14.

For now, only developers can get their hands on the app, while the public will get it in a while.
