Optimer Pharmaceuticals Inc. (OPTR) Thursday reported fourth-quarter net income of $1 million or $0.02 per share, compared with $13 million or $0.28 per share last year.
Results for the reporting quarter included a gain of $31.5 million from the sale of the company's equity interest in Optimer Biotechnology Inc.
Revenues for the quarter were $19.5 million, compared with $64.6 million a year ago, hurt by lower contract income.
Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters estimated a loss of $0.38 per share on revenues of $18.05 million for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Operatign expenses for the quarter totaled $50 million, compared with $52 million a year ago.
