Dame Kiri Te Kanawa has been announced among the recent additions to season four of "Downton Abbey." She'll be joined by Shirley Maclaine and Tom Cullen as guests on the upcoming series.

Kanawa, the New Zealand Opera star, plays the role of a houseguest whose stay includes a musical performance. Maclaine plays Martha Levinson, who "proved a huge hit with viewers last year," and appears in the Christmas episode, the show's producers told The Telegraph.

Cullen, for his part, plays a young aristocrat who tries to comfort Lord Gillingham. He hit Twitter with the good news over the weekend:

"I can announce that I'm in the new season four of Downton Abbey. So excited. My heart is beating a little too fast."

Last season the drama was the most-watched series on PBS since Ken Burns' "The Civil War," which first aired in 1990.
